Picked up a load of peach punnets for 10p each last night in Tesco's. Result!

One advantage of the evening run to Faversham for Air Cadets is I can do the shopping without the kids helping me spend the food money and insisting on all types of crap. It also gave me study time when I was doing my course as between Morrisons and Tesco's I usually get 45mins to an hour to myself. Depending on the weather I either sit in the car and read/ write/study or go for a walk along the Creek to clear my head and think. Given I'm with the kids 24/7 most weeks this has given me invaluable head space and is totally worth - in my opinion - the inconvenience of a twice weekly hike to Faversham.

Anyway, peaches. The kids have scoffed a load but there's still about 25-30 in the cupboard. I was thinking peach pie which I've never tasted but is one of those all American things you see in the movies. So it must be good. Right? Or this should be easy enough to mock up.

I've also got into poaching fruit recently served with ice cream or just cream on its own. Pears are absolutely delicious poached in a mixture of juice or wine/ water, spices and sugar so I may give that a go instead.

Poached pears taste great with the addition of a pinch of saffron to the liquid too. They come out pale gold.

Ah I don't have any saffron at the moment, but will bear it in mind for the storecupboard in future. Am cooking them for dessert tonight and can't wait to see the colour of them :)

Belay that - found some strands in the spice tin in the back of my cupboard!
